The Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Award in Canine Care and Welfare is part of the Canine Studies certificate has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career working in the canine care and welfare sector. It can be studied as a stand alone Award or as part of the canine Studies certificate.

This
qualification can be used flexibly to meet learner needs. Depending on the context of the learning and the needs of each individual learner, the qualification can:

Prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding;
  • prepare learners for employment;
  • support a role in the workplace;
  • encourage engagement in learning.
This qualification has been designed to enable learners to understand Canine Behaviour and Communication.

  • Dog Grooming
  • Canine Anatomy and Physiology
  • Providing Professional Care and Boarding Facilities
  • Prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding

Canine Studies also includes the Awards:
Canine Nutrition, canine Anatomy and Physiology, Canine Care and Providing Providing Professional Daycare and Boarding, Canine Behaviour and Communication and Dog Grooming. Each which can be studied individually.

Entry requirements: This course is suitable for those working in, or wishing to work in the Canine industry or pet owners that would like to increase their knowledge about dogs.  A knowledge of working with dogs is not required. Minimum age 18 years
