Workshop Title: Safety Around Dogs

Learning Outcomes
The learner Will Understand how to deal with loose dogs.                                  The learner will:
 
 1.  The Dogs mind                                                                                                          1.1 Understand the evolution of Dogs
                                                                                                                                           1.2 How evolution has affected the development of the dog
                                                                                                                                           1.3 Understand the nature of canine and human
                                                                                                                                                 relationships and how this can affect behaviour


 
 
2.The Learner will understand basic Dog Body Language.                                       2.1 A basic understanding of dog body language.
                                                                                                                                             2.2 How previous human contact can affect dog behaviour.
                                                                                                                                             2.3 The ladder of aggression.
 
 

3. The learner will understand how to approach dogs.                                              3.1 Be able to decide if a dog might be a risk to human safety.
                                                                                                                                               3.2 What measures could be taken to stay safe.
                                                                                                                                               3.3 why dogs bite.
                                                                                                                                               3.4 Action to take when attacked.
 
 
 4. The learner will understand how to handle and restrain dogs safely.                4.1 How to approach a dog.
                                                                                                                                               4.2 special handling considerations.
                                                                                                                                               4.3 correct method for lifting and handling dogs.
                                                                                                                                               4.4 Equipment used in handling and restraining dogs.
                                                                                                                                               4.5 Staying safe when handling dogs and transporting dogs.
